City 5
2017 (ongoing)
There are lines between art and architecture. Lines separate. Lines also connect. Lines connect to other lines and make things. For me, these things lie at the intersections between the practices of art & architecture.
In my recent work, these distinct precincts once thought to substantiate the relative autonomy of disciplines, become common playgrounds for the creation of narratives, overlaps and new productions between formal constructions and their environments. Creating this space of fungibility ‘in-between’ offers an unrestrained series of possibilities to construct new objects devoid of prescribed functionalities and imbibed with alternative values. The name ‘City 5’ is a take on the sheer anonymity of contemporary urban productions referencing the individualistic and arbitrary nature of our contemporary architectural productions.
How can architectural form suggest or communicate new ideas and inform aesthetic sensibilities? As the disciplines meander through each others spatial and phenomenological processes, how can existing models of aesthetic/ non-aesthetic representation, meaning and perception be questioned?
