ROYCE’ Retail Store
2011
Palladium Mall, Lower Parel, Mumbai
Space, material, light, balance, form and color. A space is created that articulates a dialogue between a series of structural, fluid and compositional layers in an extremely compact and efficient footprint. The chocolate brand itself appears understated and simple but the experience complex, layered and rich.
The visual elements use this ‘simple-complexity’ as a metaphor for organizing themselves within the space. The juxtaposition of highly technology driven materials like white Corian interlace with traditional oak surfaces and volumes playing not only with mass, volume and surface but with light and material textures to change immediate perceptions for the visitor. The floor, walls and ceiling constructed of wood play with surfaces ability to reorient and adapt themselves based on their program. Floor is surface to walk (people), wall is surface to store product (chocolate) and ceiling is surface that transforms into signage (ROYCE’).
