Boutique Gallery & Office
TFAC 2
2012
Bandra West, Mumbai
The brief included: viewing gallery for art works/storage area for the archive of works/2 workstations for staff with computer/printer/1 private workspace for the client/pantry/washroom/working storage/storage for supplies and of course ample surfaces and spaces for the clients own collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures & memories.
“Similar to Joseph Cornell’s box ‘explorations’, I find an infinite number of possibilities and relationships being made in the simple space of the gallery through the juxtaposition of concepts:
Excavation, preservation, erasure, minimalism, adaptation, craft, utilitarianism & artifice. Time is slowed and the elements seem to be caught in a state of ‘suspended animation’. Time and its value as an identifier of period (historical) & state (ideology) are not static. These represent methods of articulation & connectivity between the narratives of art & the events of architecture.”
