Whitefield Palms

2007

Bangalore, India

The project brief required the design of a 250,000 sq.ft. speculative Office building for Braheja Builders in the Whitefield Technology region of Bangalore. Contrary to the normative fully enclosed atrium or public space of the majority of speculative office buildings, we decided to shift the atrium outside to the corner of the building and leave it exposed to the weather. The choice made sense as the weather in Bangalore for the majority of the year is pleasant and the employees could take advantage of exterior open spaces.

The aesthetic looked at an option for creating the space so it was able to breathe and have an open quality but still protect the employees from inclement weather and direct sunlight. The use of double skinned aluminum perforated panels allowed this to achieve this and also create a contemporary look for the building.
