public installation

Timelapse

2012

Bandra, Mumbai

The Installation is called ‘timelapse’ and comes together to form a public space where people can take a glimpse at images from their childhood memories. The videos inside depict themes from cotton candy spinning, airplanes & parasailer’s flying high above the ground, bubbles floating aimlessly through the air, ants marching to their tiny little homes and the pleasure of eating ice cream on a hot summers day.

The simplicity of form was key to allowing people to interact and use the public installation. Assembled from a series of boxes (modeled after LEGO blocks), the installation form a space not only for experiencing the installation but for experiencing a space within the city. The ornate metal boxes intersecting are reminiscent of kaleidoscopes and viewfinders that children commonly become enamored by. They become small machines for dreaming.

In addition to the conceptual importance of the content we focused on ease of construction and installation as well as maintenance and operation of the equipment. Its flexibly designed in modules allowing it to reconfigure itself to any number of different spaces. The films run on micro tabs connected to solar charging units. There are no additional power sources required on site.

For a good cause!

We believe in the Right for children not only to have an education but also to appreciate and enjoy their childhood. As adults we often are too busy or dismissive when it comes the importance of providing these essential opportunities to children.

Reactions on opening night: Heartening to see how children and adults responded so positively to the imagery of the films and the oversized blocks. For many it was giving them access to ideas & visuals, which would normally not be shared so openly in public spaces.
