A collaboration between a-RT & Soumya Raja Architect involved conceptualizing a space for a tech startup in the Bandra neighborhood of Mumbai. We initiated a design process that would engage the dialogical overlap between assumed conditions, primarily the sites existing state of structural and infrastructural disrepair and the practical and programmatic innovations that would be required to make the office function fluidly. The brief highlighted networks and connectivity as primary operational features and although each space was envisaged with a different use set, our basic approach distinguished spaces by inserting unique and pragmatically designed systems, objects, details, materials and finishes to bind the project together: custom worktables with raw metal frames, seamless grey epoxy flooring, exposed grey concrete ceilings, exposed structural elements and bare conduits and wiring, Bookshelves bolstered at the junction of ceiling and walls are fabricated in chipboard to contrast the stark solid colors which juxtapose salvaged and reused doors and simple whitewashed walls.
